Today the Gospel is troubling. Does Jesus really expect us to hate our families, friends and even ourselves in order to be his followers? We are invited to think about how we attach ourselves to things and to people, even to images of ourselves. If we are to grow, we must move on from the comfortable, let go of the familiar, this can be very painful. It is strange to hear that our family ties can be an obstacle and keep us from giving ourselves completely to living as a faithful, intentional disciple of Jesus Christ. Today I ask you to take this message seriously. What distracts you from being a disciple ? What needs to go ?
ANYONE WHO DOES NOT CARRY HIS CROSS, CANNOT BE MY DISCIPLE
