Message from Bishop of Porthsmouth

Dear Faithful and Clergy of the Diocese of Portsmouth,

“I watched Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Yes, I have given you power to tread underfoot serpents and scorpions and the whole strength of the enemy; nothing shall ever hurt you” (Luke 10: 18-19).

This is why, in the words of St. Paul... read more

IMAGINE A SOWER GOING OUT TO SOW

Today Jesus presents himself as a Sower who scatters the seed of the Word generously on ground which is not always ready or able to receive it. We hear of a sower who appears lavish and reckless with the sowing of the seed. Jesus is telling us of the generosity and...

St James Catholic church

St James Church is built within the ruins of the great Benedictine Abbey. Today we continue the practice of the monks to celebrate the Sacred Liturgy in Word and Sacrament. The church was built between 1837 and 1840, the architect was A W Pugin. On 14th December 2012 the community celebrated a Mass of Thanks giving on the 175th Anniversary of the Laying of the Foundation Stone and completion of the recent restoration work in the church.
